THE 99 PERCENT
Tomorrow I’m headed to NYC (with my friend & colleague Jesse) for The 99 Percent Conference.
The 99 Percent Conference as it’s website boasts is not about ideas but making those ideas happen:
When ideas do happen, it is not by accident. What separates creative people who make their ideas happen from the constant dreamers? Perhaps we all have an obligation to show our ideas some respect. Behance is partnering with Cool Hunting to host “99%”: a conference that focuses less on inspiration, and more on how idea generation and organization come together to make ideas happen.
Speakers include Michael Beirut, a partner at Pentagram; Cheryl Dorsey, president of Echoing Green; Author and blogger Seth Godin; Jeffery Kalmikov and Jake Nickell of Threadless; Ji Li, Creative Director of Google Creative Lab; and Scott Thomas, Design Director of New Media for Obama for America.

If the open letter to attenders they just sent out is any indication, the next two days should be very interesting…
Dear 99% Conference-goers:
Approximately 350 creative leaders and thinkers are gathering on April 16-17th for the first conference focused NOT on ideas, but on how ideas are made to happen.
For too long, conferences have been conceived as forums to inspire new ideas. It’s a great feeling when inspiration is flowing. But creative thinkers don’t need a conference to achieve that feeling. So let’s NOT gather for more ideas and inspiration, but instead, for more focus.
We all have a responsibility to ground our creative talents with execution.
The speakers before us will take a turn from their usual assignment - they will not focus on trends, new inspirations, and their greatest accomplishments. For 99%, they will do something different. Rather than showcasing their brilliant ideas, they will help us understand how they consistently make them happen and help us understand how we can do the same.
We ask you, our participants, to change your typical conference mindset as well. We must not look for inspiration but for insights into execution.
