GOOD WORLD CREATIVE
CREATIVE THEOLOGY

This Is Special

I get these emails from time to time. “Hello, My name is So and So, please check out my new ________.” Whether it’s a book, a sample chapter, a few songs, or a video…the majority of the things I get just aren’t very good. They all tend to look and sound and read the same.

And then sometimes you get something special.

Below are TWO TRACKS off of Come O Spirit, the Anthology of Hymns and Spiritual Songs Volume One by Bifrost Arts group (a sacred music non-profit that exists to enrich the church and engage the world with beauty and truth). Here is a little article about the album and their Facebook page.

I’ll be writing more about the whole album soon, but because it isn’t out yet (Sept. 8) I really wanted to you hear this now. Let me know what you think.

Just a Closer Walk

I Sought The Lord

From their press release:

For more than 30 years, pop music has suffered from a God complex—attaching a scarlet letter to artists who include the religious experience in their songs. But a new generation of musicians from across the spiritual spectrum is emerging, discarding the trappings of the Christian-culture industry to reintroduce the transcendence, beauty and historical gravity of western sacred music to the places where it belongs: dinner parties, road trips and back porches. “Come O Spirit” brings together artists like Dave Bazan, Damien Jurado, Rosie Thomas, Denison Witmer, The Welcome Wagon (featuring Sufjan Stevens) and Leigh Nash to revive 400 years of long-forgotten melodies and liturgical music. Sounding like a prayer, *Come O Spirit” interprets classic hymnody through lush, cinematic arrangements and a drop of Southern gothic mystique.
